(no subject) [Sep. 21st, 2007|06:09 am]
I was piddling around with the idea of entering another icontest for [info]dreamoftomarrow, but didn't like what I came up with.

All of them were rejects:

And with that...I'm caught up to what I've done.

I'm starting to feel creativeish again, and I miss the icontests. I'm not yet ready to tackle like the Disney 100 community, but I might pull out and dust off ol PSPX and play some more with it again and hop back into making icons for fun. It's a way to relax. :)

Dreamoftomarrow Week 95 Challenge [Sep. 21st, 2007|05:52 am]
[Tags|, , , , ]

Week 95 was a FANTASTIC challenge! I dove into it with a fervor because it was so great. Kudos to the mod who came up with it! I LOVE it!!

Anyway, what's all the fuss?

It was a Theme Challenge, but here's what the fuss was all about:
This week's Theme:
Multiple Icon Sets: Moods

Here's how this is going to work. Your mission: Create 2-5 icons of the same character from the movie featuring different moods. So if you decide to do a Schmendrick set, all the icons (up to 5) would have him on them somehow, each with a different feeling, i.e. happy, sad, confused, drunk, silly.

* You can choose from the following characters: Amalthea
* The Unicorn
* Ruhk
* Mommy Fortuna
* Prince Lir
* King Haggard
* The Skull
* The Bull
* The Cat
* Molly Grue
* Captian Cully
* Schmendrick
* The Butterfly
* The Tree

Man, I had a BLAST doing this challenge! Granted, it was a bunch of icons to put together, but I really enjoyed it.

So, here were my entries:
(Schmendrick Mood Set)

First: 0 Second: 2 Third: 0
Total votes: 2 Weighted Score: 4

(The Unicorn Mood Set)

First: 5 Second: 0 Third: 0
Total votes: 5 Weighted Score: 15

I will say that it was with these mood sets I ~finally~ mentally put together how to lighten up the "banner" beneath text so you could see what was beneath it instead of it being solid.

Why yes, I am a slow learner, why do you ask? ;)

I was also afraid someone was going to mention that I had done some other icons which closely resembled one in the Unicorn set.

Here's the "old" icons I did:

And, of course, the "new" one:

I did a total re-make of it and didn't realize I'd done one so similiar.

Anyway...the end result is a kickass banner! Honestly, this is a cool banner!

Dreamoftomarrow Week 94 Challenge [Sep. 21st, 2007|05:42 am]
[Tags|, , , , ]

As you can tell, I kind of stopped iconing for awhile. Don't ask me why. I think it's just that life got REALLY busy over the summer.

Anyway, enough about that.

Week 94 included an image challenge based on either of these images:

Here were my entries:

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 2
Total votes: 2 Weighted Score: 2

First: 1 Second: 0 Third: 0
Total votes: 1 Weighted Score: 3

We also had a Theme Challenge: "Thinking of you"

Here's my entry:

Total votes: 2

The competition was hard that week! I never was ever fully satisfied with the "Adventurer" one. I'm not sure what it was about it that just didn't jive with me. I dunno.

And, you can tell I was really into the duplication of the image top/bottom of the icon there for a bit. I kind of like the contrast.

Dreamoftomarrow Week 93 Challenge [Jun. 27th, 2007|09:52 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]

Week 93 was another interesting Theme Challenge, with the theme being "Cards". From your regular deck of playing cards to the Tarot, anything went.

Seemed so easy. It was so damn hard!

First off, I'm going to share my favorites, because DAYAMN, they're just that bloody good!

and
were done by [info]kirin76

I just really liked "The Joker" one-the colors and everything? And "The Magician" because it's shaped more like a Tarot card than an icon (why didn't I think of that? DURH!)

However, [info]pegasi1978 earned it all hands down!

Check out her awesome iconage!

Took 2nd Took 3rd Took 1st

Her "Tower" one is my favorite one of them all! Which, of course, would explain why it won! It's damn awesome!

I didn't envy the mod having to try and pick between them...so I was shocked that one of mine got mod's choice; I honestly would have picked "The Tower" since it's so sublime in many ways!

Anyway, here we go:

First: 0 Second: 1 Third: 0
Total votes: 1 Weighted Score: 2

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 0
Total votes: 0 Weighted Score: 0

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 1
Total votes: 1 Weighted Score: 1

Took Mod's Choice. I still say "The Tower" should have-it was the best one! But, I won't complain to much either. :) It was an all around good challenge!

Dreamoftomarrow Week 92 Challenge [Jun. 27th, 2007|09:39 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]

I was in a rush, and didn't double check to make sure that things worked right, so these icons didn't get entered. I realized in the morning what had happened, kicked myself in the head and then made myself move on. Blurgh!

Week 92 was an image challenge, and, damnit, I kinda liked how these came out. C'est la vie!

Here's the image we worked with:

Here would have been my entries:

Dreamoftomarrow Week 91 Challenge [Jun. 27th, 2007|09:19 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]

Week 91 was a Theme Challenge, with the theme being "Blue"

Honestly, this was literally a challenge. :|

First: 0 Second: 1 Third: 0
Total votes: 1 Weighted Score: 2

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 1
Total votes: 1 Weighted Score: 1

First: 1 Second: 1 Third: 4
Total votes: 6 Weighted Score: 9

Truth be told, I rather liked how that image turned out best in the end.

My "rejects" are here:

Dreamoftomarrow Week 89 Challenge [Jun. 13th, 2007|02:51 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]

Week 89 was a heck of an interesting challenge (where do they GET these ideas?!).

It was a challenge to do double image on your icon; same image done twice.

Sounds easy enough, but it was a BOOGER!!

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 2
Total votes: 2 Weighted Score: 2

First: 0 Second: 1 Third: 0
Total votes: 1 Weighted Score: 2

Won Mod's Choice! Which, again, came as a surprise because there were SO many other prettier icons I think.

Just playing around [Jun. 8th, 2007|12:00 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , ]

Just for fun I decided to sit down for a little while and just "play" with PSP.

My goal wasn't to make icons to enter into icontests, my intention wasn't to make anything really spectacular or brilliant, but to just play. I wanted to see how fiddling with textures, brushes, layers and such would affect the image.

I honestly had such a good time!

I learned that if you take an icon that's primarily "blue", with the proper setting, you can achieve the "selective color" look. It's not perfect, but interesting.

Granted, I'd read about this before, but to see it happen was really interesting!

Here's the first one I made.

This is Mara from "Ah! My Goddess!"

As you can see, not anything great or special. Perhaps to dark? After I put the light layer in, I realized it doesn't work so well, but I didn't feel like editing it all back out again. So I left it.

The second one I did was Mara also:

This one involves two different textures as layers. I also realized that I like "Overlay", "Dodge" and "Burn" in my tutorials. "Soft Light" can also be awesome too.

And it was this icon that really drove home to me how much a simple blue layer can make a blue-toned icon "pop".

Belldandy Icon

Here's the base I used

And with 1 layer and a dotted border, here's what the end result was:

WHOA! I LOVE how the colors pop!

Decided to add text, but I think it detracts more than it adds *blah*:

So then I did a Belldandy and Keichi icon. The text isn't set up how I wanted (if I can find an example I'll post it), but I guess it'll do. I wasn't out for perfection!

3 light textures and 1 gradient and 1 flood fill layer later, I got this:

Of course, it's missing something, so I did this:

(It's a white background with a simple 4 pixel blue border onto which I pasted the image)

I also learned with text is really does help to bring it out if you dupliate the layer you put your text on a couple of times.

Fun! :) And oddly relaxing in it's way.

Dreamoftomarrow Week 88 Challenge [Jun. 5th, 2007|04:14 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]

Another challenge of a challenge, but a good one!!

I was tickled to see all of the entries, which made it fun. :)

This week's challenge was a Theme Challenge, and the Theme was "Celebration" since Peter won the Hugo for "Two Hearts"!! YAY!! YAY!YAY!YAY!

Anyway, my entries:

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 2
Total votes: 2 Weighted Score: 2

First: 0 Second: 1 Third: 0
Total votes: 1 Weighted Score: 2

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 0
Total votes: 0 Weighted Score: 0
(Can you tell who spends to much time in the [info]cat_macros community?)

Such fun!! Great challenge, and another hard one!! :)

Dreamoftomarrow Week 87 Challenge [Jun. 5th, 2007|04:04 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]

Week 87 was [info]kirin76's first mod duty, and it was another challenge!! It was a stumper, that's for sure (I find it easier for me when I get an image challenge so I'm not wracking my brainbox for an image to mesh with a quote...I suck at that!).

And, it was indeed a challenge; a Quote challenge that is!!

The quote:
"What have you done to me?"

We had to use ALL the words, but were permitted to omit the question mark if we desired.

Small turn out (people getting busy with life I think, especially with school and summer coming!), and we were permitted up to 3 entries.

I kinda stacked the deck accidentally. :|

My entries:

First: 0 Second: 1 Third: 0
Total votes: 1 Weighted Score: 2

First: 2 Second: 1 Third: 3
Total votes: 6 Weighted Score: 11

First: 1 Second: 1 Third: 3
Total votes: 5 Weighted Score: 8

Tied second place with [info]kirin76's icons (her icons are always freakin' brilliant!)

Took third.

Took Mod's Choice (like I said, stacked deck.)

That was a challenge of a challenge!! OY!! :)

Dreamoftomarrow Week 85 Challenge [Jun. 5th, 2007|03:53 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]

Week 85 was a Quote challenge as Dreamoftomarrow welcomed some new mods (YAY!), and the quote challenge was "You are welcome here" with 3 entries per person.

I rushed this one for some reason, so mine suck.

I'll learn someday not to enter sucky icons, it's embarassing. That said, I do learn a little bit with each one I do.

So, here we go:

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 3
Total votes: 3 Weighted Score: 3

First: 0 Second: 1 Third: 2
Total votes: 3 Weighted Score: 4

First: 0 Second: 1 Third: 0
Total votes: 1 Weighted Score: 2

Tied for 3rd with [info]pegasi1978. Personally, I think her icon was heaps better. Honestly.

It was a challenge of a challenge, that's for sure!!

Dreamoftomarrow Week 86 Challenge [May. 10th, 2007|08:05 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]

Week 86's Challenge was a Theme Challenge, with the theme being Black and White.

No color AT ALL on the icon.

For me, this made it easier in some way? I am horrible at trying to figure out what colors look good together, etc. I just suck at it.

Plus, I've always thought black and white is just classy. :)

Limit of 2 icons per person, and here were my two:

First: 2 Second: 1 Third: 0
Total votes: 3 Weighted Score: 8

First: 0 Second: 1 Third: 3
Total votes: 4 Weighted Score: 5

YAY!!

I won Third Place! :)

YAY!!!!

I won Mod's Choice too!! *thud*

I'm still learning. But that was such a fun challenge! :) I loved it!

Dreamoftomarrow Week 84 Challenge + Banner for Week 77 [Apr. 30th, 2007|06:27 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , ]

I'm struggling for ideas for Week 85, so unless there's an extension, I'm out for 85, plus I was busy like crazy this past week and weekend. Visiting Oklahoma, seeing Clinton Anderson, and then spending today at the barn messing with the horses.

Suffice to say though, Week 84 had some STUNNING entries, and the one I voted for to win didn't. I just loved it.

Anyway, here's mine, in standard format, because that's what I do. :p

Week 84 consisted of an Image Challenge based on this image:

My entries for the Image Challenge:

First: 0 Second: 3 Third: 0
Total votes: 3 Weighted Score: 6

First: 0 Second: 1 Third: 2
Total votes: 3 Weighted Score: 4

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 0
Total votes: 0 Weighted Score: 0
(in regards to this one, don't know why I was possessed to write "Young Love" as it makes NO sense at all...for some reason, it seemed like a good idea at the time..maybe some kind of allegory that young love can feel like a wave crashing over you? YEAHHHH that must be it...:p)

We also had a Theme Challenge with the theme being "Tired/Weary"

Here are my entries for the Theme Challenge:

Total Votes: 4

Total Votes: 2

Knock me over with a feather, but I won both First for the Theme challenge as well as Mod's Choice! *is surprised*

For some reason, I figured that the "Weary" one would be more popular...I guess I'm still trying to figure this all out! I mean, when I vote even, I figure I'm voting on the winning icon, and rarely do I ever "pick" the winner. Perhaps I should stop voting for my own personal favorite(s), seems to jinx 'em ;)

I also had totally forgotten about this one, which was technically the first one I ever placed for, but, after going back, I remembered I didn't get to vote that week, so it didn't really "count".

But here's my banner! YAY!!

FUN!!!

And, now I'd better get scootin'. Stuff to get done! :)

Dreamoftomarrow Week 83 Challenge [Apr. 23rd, 2007|05:25 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]

Week 83 was a super-huge mega-challenge, like WHOA!!

We had an Image Challenge based on this image.

We had a Quote Challenge, with the quote being:
strange white beast

AND THEN (!!) we had a Theme Challenge, with the theme being:
pearly white

My entries for the Image Challenge:

First: 2 Second: 1 Third: 2
Total votes: 5 Weighted Score: 10

First: 0 Second: 2 Third: 1
Total votes: 3 Weighted Score: 5

First: 0 Second: 1 Third: 2
Total votes: 3 Weighted Score: 4

My entries for the Quote Challenge:

First: 3 Second: 1 Third: 2
Total votes: 6 Weighted Score: 13

First: 0 Second: 1 Third: 1
Total votes: 2 Weighted Score: 3

First: 0 Second: 1 Third: 0
Total votes: 1 Weighted Score: 2

My entry for the Theme Challenge:

Total votes: 5

Truth be told, not many people entered, and I entered so many icons, I won a few by default because my votes had to be thrown out :|

However, here's my banners :) Pretttttty!!!

I got Third place with the Image Challenge:

I got Second place with the Quote Challenge:

And I won the Theme Challenge:

Ended up with a bunch of variations on the theme for ones I didn't enter, and one I tried and tried and tried to make work, but alas, it didn't. You'll see the efforts though, and my final decision was to just leave it alone and put no text on it.

Here's the culls:

(the blank)

(the blank...egads how I hate how Amalthea turned out..blurrrrrrry!!!)

(the blank, and I think it's better off with no text at all)

Dreamoftomarrow Week 79 Challenge [Apr. 23rd, 2007|05:04 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]

Week 79's Theme Challenge was "Dirty", open to interpretation...the one which won was hysterically funny:

(done by [info]layla_black)

I'm not creative enough for those I think, but these were mine tossed into the ring. Not really good, and the Molly ones and the ones of Captain Cully's band were lines I culled from the book.

First: 0 Second: 1 Third: 0
Total votes: 1 Weighted Score: 2

First: 0 Second: 3 Third: 0

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 0
Total votes: 0 Weighted Score: 0

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 0
Total votes: 0 Weighted Score: 0

That said, I think [info]pegasi1978 showed some compassion on me and I got a Mod's Choice. :) *chuckles* I was tickled though.

Our Theme challenge was "Spring"

Here were my entries for the theme challenge:

Dreamoftomarrow Week 77 Challenge [Mar. 12th, 2007|10:17 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]

We had a Theme Challenge this week :)

The theme, due to the new release of TLU on DVD was "censored", since, dagnabit, they removed "2 damns and a hell" from the re-release.

My entries:

First: 1 Second: 0 Third: 1
Total votes: 2 Weighted Score: 4

First: 2 Second: 0 Third: 1
Total votes: 3 Weighted Score: 7
**tied for third, but, as I forgot to vote, I don't think it really counts cause that's not fair!**

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 0
Total votes: 0 Weighted Score: 0

I did others, but, realized (of course) to late that I should have changed my first entry to read something else. OH well. :p

Dreamoftomarrow Week 76 Challenge [Feb. 28th, 2007|07:11 am]
[Tags|, , , , ]

This week's challenge was:
Classical Elements in Western Civilizations
More specifically: Air, Fire, Earth, Water

Is okay, I'm really rather fond of my icons. :) I think they're pretty. Though, if someone can offer some input, I'd appreciate it. I'm stumped about what I must have done wrong, or maybe I just need to fine tune and tweak 'em?

Anyway, here're my entries:

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 0
Total votes: 0 Weighted Score: 0

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 0
Total votes: 0 Weighted Score: 0

First: 0 Second: 0 Third: 0
Total votes: 0 Weighted Score: 0

Thoughts? Input? Advice? Suggestions?

My favorite's my "Earth" one ;)
